Ode to High Heels

Added height with an inch,
They may pinch but I do not mind,
Putting stilettos on my feet,
make my heart flutter with joy.

Red, yellow, black and pink,
some faded, some with a glean.
Tiny bows on the toes,
accessory is the key.

Straps that tie around my ankle,
help me take strides with pride.
Spiked heels and thick heels,
I love the ones that look funky.

I have over a hundred pairs,
even though I have fallen a hundred times.
Gucci, Prada and some Candy,
I collect those that are fancy.

Litany Poem: Frybread Momma

Frybread Momma by Venus Pigsley

You are the frybread and the stew,
the drummer and the dancer.
You are the sweat on the woman's forehead
and the burning heat of the fryer.
You are the flower covered shirt on the frybread momma,
and the grease vapor floating in the air.

However, you are not the chief,
or the whip woman.
And you are certainly not the burnt bread.
There is just no way that you are burnt bread.

It is possible that you are the indian tipi creepin,
maybe even powwow princess,
but you are not even close
to being the eagle soaring in the sky.

And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the moccasins by the door
nor the dogs asleep outside.

It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of the moccasins dancing.

I also happen to be the morning star,
the napkin floating down the lodge hallway
and the basket of delicious fruit on the table.

I am also the feathers in the dancers' hair
and the elders' cup of kool-aid.
But don't worry, I'm not the frybread and the stew.
You are still the frybread and the stew.
You will always be the frybread and the stew,
not to mention the drummer and--somehow--the
dancer.

P.S:
My mom makes DELICIOUS Frybread.
She's my Frybread Momma

About Me :)

My name is Venus Pigsley.  I am 21 years old.  I have an undeclared major.  I love art, that's what I would like to get my education for.  I'm a local here in Lewiston, ID, I have lived here for 14 years.  I was born in Oregon and wish to go back someday.

Some interesting things about me are that I was the only girl wrestler here in Lewiston.  I wrestled for 9 years.  I love track and cross country, but I like to run on my own.  I hate basketball because I am not very good at it.  I also love to draw, paint, sculpt, which has allowed me to draw my own tattoos.  I have 9 of them.  Later on in life I hope to have a degree in some type of art and hopefully travel the world and become a tattoo artist.  Hobbies that I have are running, watching movies, bowling, and skating at the roller rink downtown, spending time with my family and my boyfriend.
I hope to learn a lot from this Literature class but I don't know if I will like it very much honestly.  But by far I'm very excited to see what comes in the future.
